An outline of the future academic plans

The goal of the African Association of Political Science (AAPS) is to promote and advance
political science and political scientists in Africa through the following:

A)

Supporting the establishment and development of political science associations in every country;

B)

Facilitating the spread of information about developments in political science;

C)

Organising world a biennial conference, regional colloquiums every alternate years in between conferences, quarterly research seminar/webinar series

D)

Providing other research opportunities for personal contacts among political scientists within Africa and with the rest of the world through participation and representation in IPSA research activities;

E)

Publishing books and the African Journal of Political Science which members can access as part of membership benefits

F)

Promoting opportunities for political scientists in Africa to engage in internationally research collaborations

To achieve the above stated objectives for the next 2 years, the recently elected Executive
Committee plan to:


1. Institutionalize good governance by developing a governance charter and embarking
on administrative reform.
2. Mainstream gender and youth into all AAPS leadership structures and ensure gender
and diversity in AAPS research, publications and conference activities.
3. Internationalise AAPS and its activities across the world with strong representation
in all IPSA activities starting with re-joining IPSA collective membership.
4. Organise quarterly research seminars/webinars in 2021, regional colloquiums in 2022
and the AAPS biennial conference in 2023.
5. Support the establishment of new national political science associations in Africa
6. Appoint an Editorial Team for the African Journal of Political Science (AJPS)
7. Reclaim and open the AAPS Secretariat Office
8. Appoint a Program Officer to manage the AAPS Secretariat Office

Rethinking Politics in Africa held on 25 and 26 March 2021 were the new AAPS was formally launched. In attendance were 12 national political science associations and their officers including an individual membership base of over 120 political scientists in Africa comprised of the Diaspora. At the end of a successful conference, general meeting, an Executive Committee (EC) of 9 members as provided for by the new AAPS constitution was elected.
